Tonbridge Gold  is an Expedition Training Organisation for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE).  We offer training (theory and practical) and a supported practice expedition which will prepare you for the challenge of completing a 4-day qualifying expedition on your own in wild country.  We also offer opportunities to complete that qualifying expedition with us - we provide the transport and supervision - but you can also choose to do the qualifying expedition with another AAP.

Tonbridge Gold  used to be an Open Award Centre.  However, changes to the DofE at national level mean that Open Award Centres will no longer exist and participants must register with a Directly Licenced Centre (DLC), e.g. their school, college, university, youth organisation or place of work.  If you haven't got access to a local DLC to do your Gold DofE, you can do your programme through an online portal on the national website.  This is known as DofE Direct and you can find more details  here.

Tonbridge Gold is therefore in the process of becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) which is a type of charity, with an Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) licence.  It will become a DofE Approved Activity Provider (AAP), specialising in gold expedition training.  Our expedition training proghramme will remain largely unchanged from when we were an Open Award Centre.

Our new CIO should come into existence by the end of October 2018.  You will therefore not be able to sign up of our 2019 expedition training programme until November.  If you are signed up with Tonbridge Gold for the 2018 expedition training programme, continue to use the site as before.  All the information on the site refers to its current status as an Open Award Centre.  Our new website will launch in October with details of the 2019 programme.

"I'm just writing to say thank you to every member of your team who helped out on the Gold Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition in the Lake District. I appreciate how kind and generous you all are in giving up your leave and spare time to help us achieve our Gold awards. It was organised so well, and speaking on behalf of my team I can safely say that we found it a thoroughly rewarding experience ... now for the real thing!" Will Dove 2011
