About Tonbridge Gold

Support and Communications

Tonbridge Gold has been set up to support you in achieving your Gold Award.  We have no specific base but there is a large team of helpers who will advise you about the various elements of the gold award, and train you for your gold expedition.  This website will provide you with most of the information you need but you can always call or email one of the leaders for advice if necessary.  You need access to the Internet, a printer, an email address, a mobile phone and the ability to read Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat PDF files.  Any problems - talk to Linda Chapman. Once you have read this page, click on the Joining Tonbridge Gold tab and follow the instructions.

Completing the Sections

To achieve a Gold Award you will need to complete 5 sections.  See the D of E Website for details and time scales.  Please try to decide what you will do for at least 1 or 2 sections before you apply, and contact Linda if you have any queries.

Expedition Training

Expedition theory training will take place at the Judd School over two weekends.  You can attend any two of the four days.  Practical training is undertaken on Dartmoor in April.  These training sessions, coupled with an approved practice expedition to the Lake District in July or to the Peak District in August will ensure you will have the necessary skills to undertake a safe, exciting and adventurous qualifying venture of your choice.

We are usually able to let you borrow expedition equipment such as tents and cookers, or you may be able to arrange to borrow equipment from your school or another Unit.  You will need your own walking boots, expedition clothing, sleeping bag, rucksack etc.

Operating Procedures

As a voluntary organisation offering the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, we are part of Kent County Council Youth Service.  KCC is the DofE Operating Authority and we conform to their policies and procedures, especially all of their health and safety requirements for adventurous activities.
