The Route Card

In order to calculate the time that your expedition will take and the approximate times that you will arrive at various points along the way, you need to create a route card.  The example below is based on the official DofE one which is a Word document that you can download from the DofE website, but is an Excel spreadsheet version.  If you enter the data, it will automatically calculate the times for you based on your chosen walking and ascent speed, plus stops.  Click on the route card to see an enlarged version and click here to find out how to use Naismith's Rule to work out speed of travel and estimated times of arrival on your route card.
